Interior Design
This class focused on creating 3D structures by using different materials. We learned about many aspects of construction and how to use them effectively. I really enjoyed how hands-on this class was, and being able to use creativity in another way.

Line and Balance
For this project, we were asked to construct a structure of a human figure in action, out of wire. The theme that we used was action in sports. With my experience on the rowing team, I know the form of the “catch”. We started with a reference photo which then led to us making sketches of how we were going to make the frame of the body and the angel. We needed to make it so that the figure was balanced at an angle while being fixed in one position. This was challenging but fun to figure out how to make the figure stay. In the end, it created a motion that you can see would be movable in the human body and represents line and balance well.

Plane to Mass
For the plane-to-mass project we were asked to create a curvilinear and rectilinear plane out of cardboard, while making these planes we were asked to incorporate them into a 3-D robot. We started by sketching our ideas on paper and then continued to cut and glue our pieces together. I decided to do a spinoff of the iron giant, mixed with the mom from “Robots” the movie, which is why the robot is part oven! Throughout this project, I learned a lot about making curves and angles and how they can change something to make it seem much more seamless and functional.

Pattern and Balance
This project we did was focused on pattern and balance. We were asked to create a tile, that has a pattern and can be repeated. Once we had our sketches together, we made stencils that could be traced out to make it easier for us to create the pattern. For this project, I decided to do an asymmetrical mountain scene, but in color. This tile could be duplicated in many ways, and I think that with more tiles, a bigger picture could be painted.

Emphasis through Contrast
For these projects, we were asked to create emphasis through contrast through a few sculptures made from clay. The two forms that I made were of Jonah and the whale after Jonah had been spat onto the shores of Nineveh. I made it so that the whale was much bigger than Jonah so that the emphasis could be seen between the two conflicting characters in the story. I thought that this project was great to do because we got to tie in a lot of the different techniques that we had learned from the previous projects in the class.
